John Vickers – Chair from 2016

  • Host Homestead Tours [est. 1992] specialising in heritage domestic architecture. Day Tours in the Rangitikei, Whanganui, and Hawkes Bay Districts.
  • Finalist in the Heritage section of NZ Tourism Awards 1995
  • Member of the Wanganui Branch Committee NZHPT 1995–98.
  • Rangitikei District Mayor 1998-2001.
  • Co-owner with Sarah of Woodleigh Farm, Marton [a 1911 Chapman – Taylor house] since 1975.
  • Widespread garden interests.
  • Fifth generation Rangitikei resident, member of Clergy in the Parish of Rangitikei.

Ann McNamara – Trustee, Treasurer

  • BSc Auckland University – Marine Biology.
  • Diploma of Teaching, Auckland.
  • Secondary School teacher – 33 years.
  • Member of Historical Places Trust/ Heritage Trust since 1980’s.
  • Committee member of Civic House, part of the Joint Council of the Whanganui Regional Museum’s governance board from 2001 – 2006.
  • Life- long interest in conservation in the natural world and an interest in art and architecture.
  • Interest in conservation of our cultural heritage.

Bruce Dickson – Trustee

  • FNZIA, ARIBA, Registered Architect.
  • Practicing Architect-started practice in Wanganui in 1967.
  • Co Founder of the Mainstreet Wanganui organisation-currently Chairman of the Design Heritage Committee.
  • Member of NZHPT.
  • Experienced in Heritage Conservation, reuse of “At Risk “buildings, urban design and architecture relevant to the NZ environment and history.
  • Interest-the future of Whanganui and the Regions heritage buildings and places.
  • Earthqauke Prone Buildings Community Taskforce Committee, Town Centre Regeneration Committee – Whanganui District Council.

Rosemary Tennant – Trustee

  • Diploma Fine Arts – Canterbury University.
  • Carrington Polytechnic – all papers completed for a Certificate in Architectural Drafting.
  • Wananga o Aotearoa – Diploma in Te Ara Reo Maori.
  • Experience in stained glass restoration, library assistance Auckland University Architecture Library, organizing community education classes.
  • Currently administrator to Pakaitore Historic Reserve Board and assistant at Bruce Dickson Architecture.

Mary Ann Ewing – Secretary Trustee

  • Whanganui Literary Festival Trustee.
  • Teacher at Whanganui High School for 15 years retired I 2015.

Helen Craig – Trustee

  • Whanganui District Councillor: Property & Community Services Chair, Town Centre Renegeration Committee Chair, Earthquake Prone Buildings Community Taskforce Committee.
  • Co-owner with Gordon Craig, of a Category II home built 1877, Craig House, in the family since 1910.
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts 2009, Sculpture Major.
  • 20 years, Fire & General Insurance Corporate Risk Management, Auckland and Singapore.

Denis McGowan - Trustee

  • M/ADNZ, M/DANZ Architectural Designer since 1974.
  • A/AMINZ - Arbitrator / Mediator since 1998.
  • Director of McGowan & Harrison Ltd an Architectural practice offering design / Documentation / RMA Planning / Fire Designs / Project Management.
  • Member of Bushy Park Trust & previous member of several local Trusts & Boards.
  • Particular interest in design & construction method of early NZ houses.

Bruce Falk – Trustee

  • IQP Building Warrant of Fitness Inspector.
  • Builder, building inspector, tenancy management, specification writing and plan drawing.
  • Project management in commercial and medium size group housing, and Housing New Zealand and Council contracts.
  • Wide ranging experience from providing condition reports on buildings, documents for projects and supporting funding applications.

In memory of Wendy Pettigrew

Wendy Pettigrew served as Chair of the Trust for many years. Wendy was well-known as a local and architectural historian, She was previously Secretary of the Whanganui Branch Committee of New Zealand Historic Places Trust 2003-2010.

She was involved in researching buildings in Wanganui’s CBD as well as writing two local church histories for St Mary’s Upokongaro and the Wanganui Collegiate School Chapel.

Wendy was involved in organising the annual Whanganui Summer Programme and also served as the Trust’s representative on the Earthquake-prone Building Community Task Force in Wanganui. During her time on the Trust, Wendy also served on the Mainstreet Wanganui Design Heritage Committee.

Wendy's contributions to the preservation of Wanganui's heritage are sorely missed.
