Laurence is the great grandson of TB Williams, mayor of Whanganui for two terms, who served for 40 years in civic roles. Karen’s parents began married life at Ratana pa. They chose to sponsor Maori Realm in honor of Karen’s parents who taught in the Maori School Service. Karen’s mother realized that maori students were not represented in instructional reading material. The books Mary and Penn McKay produced became national curriculum throughout NZ. Arthur Wheeler Leedstown Trust

The Leedstown Trust was established in 1959 with a bequest from renowned Rangitikei sheep farmer Arthur Wheeler to support ‘charitable objects within New Zealand’.
